Rebekah Steen is the creator of the site Goldfish Kiss. She is in charged of everything, photos, posts, DIY’s, and the graphics. In another words, she puts a lot of heart and effort in maintaining this site. If you never heard about it before, be aware that it is addictive! It is a place to inspire any beach lovers! Check out our interview with the lovely Rebekah:
FDA) So Rebekah, tell us about how “Goldfish kiss” get started?
R) I use to have a website for my graphic design and artwork with a little blog on it, then I realized all I was talking about was health, beaches, beauty tips, and swimwear. So one night in a coffee shop, about four and a half years ago, I bought the goldfishkiss.com URL, started posting, and have been posting consistently ever since.
FDA) Your photos inspire many girls, including us ! Is there a fashion producer giving you assistence to do the pictures or is just yourself ?
R) Thank you so much! The majority of the photos I just take myself! I use a tripod and autotimer, or get creative and balance my camera on stuff or stretch my arm out really far and just snap a pic. I am seriously, always figuring out new ways to shoot, and never really know when I am goIng to do it, so It’s hard to really ask for help. But, every now and then I’ll beg my husband to help. Or for a few posts I’ve shot with friends who are photogrphers. But mainly it’s just me!
FDA) About your colaborations with different brands, like flash tattoos, how do they initiated?
R) Flash Tattoos rock my world. And their owner is an amazing gal. I met her through my blog a few years ago when I was just moving away from Hawaii, and she was just starting Flash Tattoos. We hit it off, and I started snapping pics. Then when asked if I’d like to do a collaboration, I was totally pumped to think of some designs, and have loved wearing them ever since! I try to have all my design collaborations be with brands I’ve had relationships with for a while, so it’s really nice to be able to work in that way.
FDA) The beach environment is the place that most inspires you to create new writing, watercolor, photos… tell us, when this love for the beach get started?
R) It’s just always been in me, I guess. I only lived by the beach the past 5 years or so, so I think it’s been something I’ve always been drawn to. Then, once I was able to live somewhere tropical, I realized how it was meant to be. Then. I’ve been drawn to the water since I could crawl. I would crawl into the pool and wait on the bottom for my mom to come get me. My mom is a total water gal too. And I think she gave me the beach-loving genes.
FDA) And your love for art?
R) I’ve been drawing or painting as far back as I could remember! It’s my passion and therapy. In college, I told myself I needed a “real job” major and went one semester without art…and was miserable. Other than that time, I’ve been drawing, painting, designing, or being creative ever since.
FDA) In the last two years, the health generation grew worldwide. Did you notice this increase through your blog?
R) I definitely see a big interest in anything health related, and in anyone who can dish out tips on how they are being healthy. And I love the interest! Unfortunately I think much of peoples interest is still in hopes of wanting to look a certain way or be a certain weight. I’m hoping people continue wanting to be healthy, but to do it more and more for themselves, and to take care of their amazing bodies!
FDA) Have you ever been in Brasil?
R) NO! I need to go though, it looks amazing. There’s such a vibrant and exciting vibe with so much to see and do!
FDA) Do you have any tips for the girls who want to start a blog?
R) Don’t overthink it. You aren’t starting a job or new career. It should always start as a hobby, and something you enjoy doing and look forward to creating! Then, if it takes off who knows where it could take you…
